Nokia X Deadmau5 = Pretty Stunning Projections

We are a little tired of 3D projections in general, but this one is pretty lovely and really effin BIG.

To launch the new Nokia Lumia 800, they brought the popular DJ Deadmau5 to London with a lovely projection piece.

#OWS Goes Guerrilla

Occupy Wall Street went guerrilla last night with a large-scale projection on the Verizon building in NYC with a large 99% logo as well as some othe relevant messages to highlight their anger points. Boing Boing has an interview with Mark Read, the creator of the execution here.

 

 

Blah Blah Blah Projection Mapping Blah Blah Renault Blah Blah Car Show

Not to be confused with Inifiniti or Toyota, oh yeah, or Hyundai, yet another company has done a white car projection mapped to make it seem magical and augmented. I don't hate the creative, it is quite pretty in fact, I just don't like the constant reuse of the same idea, for the same type product, in the same type of experiential manner. Creativity people, that is the business we are in.

Hyundai Goes All Inception And Drives Down The Side Of A Building

In a pretty creative use of projection, suspension and viral video creation, Hyundai gives us this little gem for the Accent from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Technically I am not sure I would call this projection mapping as they are not really mapping any surfaces, it is one flat wall, but the Inception-like 3D effects still work well.

What is the special sauce in this one comes around the :32 second mark where you see the car suspended and the Tron looking figure walking down the wall. The way they made the car appear to drive down the side of the wall works really well and i wonder if we will start seeing more 3D props coming into projection campaigns.

TRON and...HP? Projection Mapping Experience

Another projection mapping spectacle in London, this one for the new TRON movie from Disney. While this one has some sweet graphics and of course the trancendental Daft Punk soundtrack, there is something that makes it feel a little slow. Some of the recent projection campaigns have been amazing so perhaps I am comparing it too much, but if it is for the movie, make it more about the movie or create some drama around the animation treatment, it just feels like they had some art direction and then they just figured they would utilize the same type assets and style over and over and after a few minutes I wanted more. I am sure if i were seeing it live, then I may feel different, but for viral, it was not game changing.

The HP sponsorship semed a bit odd as well, in the futurific world of TRON, does HP really play? Well if they helped it get made, hats off to them.

Ralph Lauren Goes 4D With Stunning Projection

Ralph Lauren might have just set the bar for creative architectural brand projections with this nifty little experiment in "4D". Done at their flagship store in NYC, this execution is one of the best examples of video and animation mapping I have seen.

Brands and brand makers that are not thinking creatively about utilizing public spaces and events for creative projection experiences are missing out in my opinion.

LEGS, The Standard NYC and MotherNY Go Big To Launch Fall Line For Target

To launch their fall fashion line, Target bought out all of the rooms on one side of NY's Standard Hotel and planned a showcase, light and dance spectacle via LEGS and Mother NY. This would have been a great experience to see live, but the video does give you a sense of how creative it was. The unedited videos are available on YouTube as well.

Great Architectural Projection Execution

Can someone please hire us to do some architectural projections for their brand? I am sick of highlighting other people's amazing work in this dynamic medium. Actually, don't even hire us, let us use your building to create magic. This tactic should be in any brand's back pocket for nighttime experience creation. It will stop people in their tracks.
