Ahh, the 'lost wallet' promotion. This idea seems to rear it's head every year or two. Someone hires a street team to conveniently 'drop' wallets around major cities. People then find the wallets and either thinking they scored or thinking they will be a good Samaritan, they then realize that it is a marketing stunt and get to keep the wallet and whatever is in it, not to mention get a big dose of participatory marketing in the interim.
Burger King is the latest to execute the idea. The wallets reportedly have anything from $1-$100. They also have a drivers license featuring the king, maybe some gift cards and coupons, and a map to the local BK's to spend your non-hard earned cash. I executed the same idea for a bank, and for a charity. And it would seem that McDonald's, GE Financial and a Brazillian version of the WSJ have also. This may not be the worst idea as the nature of social media and info sharing has changed quite a bit since many of the others have done it, but I guess I expect a little more original ideas from BK.
